DNA Architecture

DNA version 3 introduces Internet Gateways for DNA Client and DNA Server, providing unparalled access to clients on remote networks and PCs hidden behind firewalls.

Play schematic in pop out window.

DNA uses Clients, Server(s), Database (SQL, MSDE or SQL Express)  and now Internet Gateways for the Client and Server components.

Clients

The client component is installed on all PCs and are "online",  meaning they are permanantely active and update the server/database on a refular basis. This means you data is never more than 10 minutes out of date. Clients communicate with the DNA Server at pre-defined intervals , where they also pick up any instructions for  software deployments etc and also transfer their audit data for writing to the SQL database.

Client Deployment

DNA has its own client deployment tool which enumarates the availability of clients and target PCs both on the local network and made accessible via the new gateways.
The tool allows for manual or autiomatic deployment.

The Role of Gateways

Gateways act as a "secure communications bridge", allowing clients which would normally be hidden behind a firewall, or simply only accessible through the Internet, but not part of the local network. Gateways make use of specific assigned TCP/IP ports and all data communication is encrypted. Acces is controlled with a secure Gateway Key.

Low Maintenance

The client-server relationship processes are entirely automatic and typically require NO user configuration or intervention after the intial installation, meaning there is less for you to do.

Likewise, DNA Server and database require no user intervention for maintenance. other than standard DBA activities.
